Real Plumbing Stories from Poway

What we see, fix and learn every week

Poway’s one of those towns that still feels like a community — quiet streets, well-kept yards, and homes that show pride of ownership. But underneath those picture-perfect neighborhoods, the plumbing never sleeps. Between older homes near Midland Road and newer builds off Twin Peaks, we see a little bit of everything. Hard water, pressure fluctuations, and long water runs all take their toll on fixtures and pipes.

At Little Guy Plumbing & Drain, we’ve repaired everything from cracked irrigation feeds to water heater leaks hiding behind finished walls. The aging infrastructure makes Poway a place that keeps plumbers on their toes.

Common Problems We See in Poway

High Water PressurePoway’s municipal water system delivers strong flow, but older plumbing isn’t always built for it. We see leaks develop at supply lines and shutoff valves that have been holding too much pressure for too long.

Hard Water Build-UpThe city’s water runs heavy on minerals. Faucets clog, water heaters lose efficiency, and fixtures corrode faster without filtration or maintenance.

Aging Galvanized Lines In older areas near Community Road and Garden Road, galvanized supply lines are still common. Over time, they rust internally and restrict flow — sometimes right down to a trickle.

Pro Tip: Add a Pressure Regulator and Flush Your Water Heater.

If your faucets hiss, or you hear water hammer when you shut off a tap, chances are your home could use a pressure-reducing valve. It protects your entire plumbing system from stress — and keeps those connections tight. While you’re at it, drain your water heater once a year to flush out sediment. It’s one of the simplest ways to extend its lifespan.

A Recent Job We’re Proud Of

A homeowner off Espola Road called after finding a warm spot on their tile floor. Using our leak detection equipment, we traced a pinhole leak in the hot water line beneath the slab. The line was rerouted through the attic with new PEX tubing, pressure-tested, and insulated to prevent future wear. Water was restored the same day — and the customer saved their flooring.

We’ve seen similar cases across San Marcos and Escondido, where older copper pipes beneath concrete are starting to fail under mineral-rich water.
