Do you have an old water filter that needs service?

Many people think that having a water filter in their home guarantees unlimited clean water. The fact is, all water filters need to be serviced in order to ensure ongoing results. Having old, unserviced filters can lower your water quality and even introduce contaminates. Call now to find our what you can do to improve your water quality today.

Types of Water Filtration Systems

We install only the highest quality water filtration products available. Our systems are designed to instantly and dramatically improve your water’s taste and overall purity without the use of salt or other harmful agents. There are a variety of filters and conditioners to choose from. Here are the systems we recommend for the best water filtration in San Diego.

Sediment Filters

Sediment filters are considered a first step in water filtration. They usually consist of a plastic housing that contains a filter medium made of paper, ceramic, polypropylene, acrylic fiber or some other manufactured material. They work by simply trapping larger mineral deposits, foreign particals and other debris. They are often installed independently on the main service line of a building; as a pre-filter to larger filtration systems; or just before a water heater.

Reverse Osmosis Filters

Reverse osmosis (RO) filters are one of the best ways to have an unlimited supply of clean drinking water in your home or workplace. They are the most common type of water filtration systems available because they’re small, affordable and easy to install and service. They’re normally installed in the kitchen sink cabinet and include a small storage tank and a dedicated faucet that’s located on top of the sink for easy access. There are a variety of RO systems available, some having up to 5 or more filters consisting of at least one sediment trap, some form of granular and/or block carbon and sometimes an additional conditioning agent.

UV Filters

UV filters are fairly new to the market but are quickly gaining popularity due to their effectiveness in cleaning water at a time when health concerns are rising. They work by passing water through a chamber containing a UV lamp. As the water flows through the chamber, the UV light kills bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms present. Some RO systems include a small UV filter bundled into the unit, but there are larger UV filters available for whole-house applications.

Whole House Filters

Whole house water filters have been a popluar choice for water filtration in San Diego for quite sometime. They affectively remove harmful contaminants from the water making it safe, odor free and great tasting. They have a large, single-canister housing that contains several layers of media including various grades of granular carbon, silicon and other materials. Water passes through the various layers of filtration media and is sometimes conditioned (depending on which filter you have) to control mineral build-up and scale. Whole house filters are usually installed where the main service line enters the building to ensure all faucets and fixtures benefit from the conditioned water.

Are water softeners still an option?

Years ago, water softeners were the best remedy for hard water. But since water softeners rely on a salt-based media to reduce the mineral levels in water, there have been advancements in the way hard water is treated. That’s because salt-based systems are known to corrode plumbing and are no longer considered environmentally friendly. Today’s solution to water with high mineral and contaminate levels are carbon-based filters with some type of conditioning feature.

Many people still prefer water softening with salt-based media because they’re accustomed to feel of softened water on their skin after bathing. In these cases we’re happy to install the system of your choice, but we recommend going with a carbon-based filter. Here’s a few considerations to make before choosing a water softener.

Salt corrodes plumbing

As mentioned, salt-based systems are known to corrode copper, steel and cast iron–the most widely used materials in residential and commercial plumbing. Copper is the least resistant to the corrosive effects of salt. Consequently, it’s what the majority of plumbing systems are built with.

Salt-treated water is bad for the environment

Water that’s treated with salt (sodium chloride) exchanges ions with the hard water minerals. This means that the water leaving the softener has high levels of chlorides. When these chlorides enter the water system it has a negative impact on the environment.

Salt-treated water may cause health concerns

Water softeners work by replacing “hard” minerals with “soft” minerals, such as sodium. When sodium chloride, a salt, is used to treat water, concerns are raised about potential health risks for those suffering from hypertension, kidney disease and congestive heart failure.

You’ll probably need an RO system installed

Water softeners reduce the hard mineral content in your water, but they don’t do much beyond that. So if you’re concerned about chloramines, heavy metals and other contaminates, you’ll still want to install an RO filter in your home. An RO filter will help reduce sodium levels created by water softeners.
